Rotate PDF pages and save them permanently

Fix sideways scans in seconds. See every page as a thumbnail, turn just the ones that need it or the whole document, and download a PDF that stays rotated in every viewer.

Private by design: your file never leaves your device. This tool runs 100% in your browser, with no uploads.

How to use the Rotate PDF tool

  1. Choose your PDF. Thumbnails of the pages appear as they are drawn.
  2. Use the arrow buttons under a page to turn it left or right, or the buttons at the top to turn every page at once.
  3. Watch the thumbnail turn. Pages you changed are highlighted and counted on the save button.
  4. Press Save rotated PDF and download the result. Reset puts every page back if you change your mind.

Worked example: two sideways pages in a 12-page scan

A 12-page scan, scan.pdf, has pages 4 and 9 lying on their side. Press the turn right button once under page 4 and once under page 9. Both thumbnails turn and the save button counts 2 changed pages.

  • Pages 4 and 9 are saved with a rotation of 90 degrees.
  • The other 10 pages keep a rotation of 0 degrees.
  • A page that the scanner had already stored at 270 degrees and that you turn right once ends up at 0 degrees, because the turns are added together.

The file is saved as scan_rotated.pdf with all 12 pages and the same content as before.

How rotation is stored

A PDF page carries a rotation value of 0, 90, 180 or 270 degrees that tells viewers how to display it. This tool adds your turn to the existing value instead of redrawing the page, so nothing is recompressed and text stays crisp and searchable. Because the rotation is part of the file, the page opens the right way up in browsers, phones, printers and other PDF programs, which is different from the temporary view rotation many viewers offer.

Mixed orientations and scans

Scanned batches often contain a few pages fed in sideways. Scroll the thumbnails, turn only the wrong ones and leave the rest alone. Pages already rotated in the source are respected: a page stored with 90 degrees that looks correct stays that way until you turn it. If a document is upside down throughout, use the 180 degree button once instead of fixing each page.

Your files stay on your device

Thumbnails are drawn by pdf.js running in your browser and the rotation is written by pdf-lib in a background worker. The file is never transmitted anywhere, so you can rotate private scans such as IDs and medical letters without handing them to a third party.

Frequently asked questions

Will rotating reduce quality?

No. Only the page rotation setting changes. The content is not re-rendered or recompressed.

Can I rotate only some pages?

Yes. Each page has its own left and right buttons, and the save button shows how many pages you changed.

Why do thumbnails look slightly different from the final pages?

Thumbnails are small previews drawn at low resolution. The saved file contains the original, full-quality pages.

Does it work with very long documents?

Yes. Thumbnails are drawn only when they scroll into view, one at a time, so hundreds of pages remain responsive.

What about password-protected files?

They need to be unlocked in your PDF viewer first; the tool will tell you if a file is protected.
