How to use the Extract PDF Pages tool
- Choose your PDF and wait a moment for the page thumbnails to appear.
- Type the pages you want, such as 1-3, 7, 10-, or click thumbnails to select them. The text box and the selection stay in sync.
- Check the button label: it shows how many pages will be extracted.
- Press Extract and download the new PDF.
Worked example: five pages from a 20-page report
A colleague only needs the summary and the results tables of report.pdf, which has 20 pages. Type 5, 1, 12-14 in the page box. The button reads Extract 5 pages.
- Page 1 of the new file is the original page 5 (the summary).
- Page 2 is the original cover, page 1.
- Pages 3 to 5 are the original pages 12, 13 and 14.
The download is named report_extracted.pdf. If you had clicked the same thumbnails instead of typing, the pages would come out in ascending order: 1, 5, 12, 13, 14. Typing 12- would take pages 12 to 20, which is 9 pages.
Page list syntax
Separate items with commas. A single number picks one page, 4-6 picks a range, 8- means page 8 to the end, -3 means the first three pages and the word last means the final page. Pages are extracted in the order you type them, so 5, 1 puts page 5 before page 1, which is a quick way to reorder. Repeated numbers are used once. Clicking thumbnails always produces an ascending list.
Extract, split or delete?
Use Extract when you want one new file with a chosen set of pages. Use Split when you want several files at once, for example one per chapter. Use Reorder and Delete when it is easier to say which pages to throw away. All three copy pages without recompressing them, so the quality of text and images is unchanged and the file size of the result is roughly proportional to the pages kept.
Your files stay on your device
Selection, preview and extraction all run locally. The thumbnails are drawn in your browser and the new PDF is created in a background worker on your device, so the file you pick is never sent over the internet.
Frequently asked questions
Can I extract non-consecutive pages?
Yes. Use commas, for example 1, 4, 9-12, or click each thumbnail you want.
Does the original file change?
No. Your original stays untouched. You receive a separate, new PDF.
Can I choose the order of the extracted pages?
Yes. When you type the list, pages come out in the order you wrote them. Thumbnail clicks give ascending order.
Will the extracted file be smaller?
Usually yes, roughly in proportion to the number of pages kept. Shared resources such as fonts are copied only if the kept pages use them.
What if I type a page that does not exist?
You get a clear message with the document length and the extract button stays disabled until the list is valid.
